Dr. Dow came to the Wirral in 1990 working in Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge Hospitals. she then worked for two years training in Psychiatry before becoming a partner in her mother's practice in the grounds of St Catherine's Hospital in 1995 She is the partner with responsibility for: Minor Surgery, Drug Dependency, Diabetes and Epilepsy.
Dr. Hedges initially worked at Clatterbridge Hospital before spending some time at Blackpool Victoria Hospital and training as a GP in Wrenbury, Cheshire. He returned to Merseyside in 1993 working at Arrowe Park, Clatterbridge and Broadgreen Hospitals before becoming a GP principal in 1995. He has also been known to help out with medical cover for Tranmere Rovers FC and is responsible for all the typos on the website. He is the partner with responsibility for: Prescribing, Clinical Governance, Drug Dependency, Coronary Heart Disease, Stroke, Mental Health, Thyroid disease and Joint injections.
Dr. Richards completed further training in general medicine and obstetrics & gynaecology at Arrowe Park Hospital and as a GP in West Kirby/Meols. He spent six months working in Alder Hey A&E before joining Dr. Hedges in 1996 He is the partner with responsibility for: COPD and Asthma, Child Health, Minor Surgery and Joint Injections.
Dr. Harrand specialised in hospital medicine for two years after qualifying before coming to the Wirral in 1994. Whilst training in General Practice she also spent time at Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology and working as a doctor in Australia and New Zealand before joining Dr. Dow in 1999 She is the partner with responsibility for: Child Health, Heart Failure, Hypertension and Palliative Care.
Susan carried out her hospital appointments and GP training in Romford and Luton. She became a partner in a practice in the West Midlands and moved to the Wirral in 2004. She was appointed here in 2006
Mrs Rosemary Stirrup joined both practices at the beginning of 1999 having previously worked at a practice in Moreton. She did Trojan work to ensure that the practice merger and building project happened smoothly and continues to manage the daily running of the surgery. She is available to speak to patients for any non-medical aspects of your treatment and health.
Jane finished her training in 2000 and since qualifying has worked within the Surgical Department at Arrowe Park Hospital
Justine finished her training in 1995. Prior to joining the practice she was working in palliative care at Queenscourt Hospice in Southport
Julie is a trained phlebotomist and has recently been working as an ATO in the Cardiovascular Dept. at Arrowe Park Hospital. She is an assistant to the Practice Nurses
Our team of seven reception staff are all experienced and very helpful. They are here to assist you in making appointments to see the doctors and nurses, organise repeat prescriptions and to answer your various requests and queries. When you telephone they may need to ask you further details to enable us to assist you as quickly and efficiently as possible. Please remember that they are not simply being nosy! The clinical staff may need more information to help prioritise your requests appropriately. they are bound by the same strict rules of confidentiality as the doctors and nurses.
We have a team of District Nurses attached to our practice. They may be involved in your nursing care if you are housebound. Contact should be through the practice please.
Our health visitors are available to provide advice on all aspects of health care for all ages, put particularly young children and the elderly. The health visitor can always be contacted via the practice and through the Child Health Department at St. Catherine's Hospital.
We share the "Devonshire" team of midwives with two other practices. They run weekly ante-natal clinics in the surgery every Friday, and, in conjunction with the doctors, will be responsible for your care during pregnancy and around the time of delivery.
Lyndsay is the main counsellor assigned to us by the Psychology Department at St. Catherine's Hospital. Counselling can help with various personal problems which may be having an effect on your health
Barbara is responsible for the practice computer system as well as the daily running of the reception team
The MacMillan nurses offer advice and support to patients and their families who affected by cancer from the time of diagnosis onwards. They have access to the palliative care team based at St. John's Hospice.
We have weekly access at the surgery to a representative from Birkenhead CAB. They will be able to give you impartial advice as to benefits available and many other related issues.
The Numark Pharmacy that shares our building is not strictly part of the surgery, however we are hoping to forge closer liks with them as technology allows us to. Margaret the pharmacist can assist you with advice on treatment of minor ailments as well as information about the medicined which have been prescribed. She is also able to assist you if you wish to stop smoking. The pharmacy may be able to help you with the collection and delivery of your medicines if you are housebound.
